English Lead Crystal Mammoth Goblet. C1740-50.
Rounded but quite square funnel bowl, tool marked and giving an effect of being dimpled, a phenomenon unseen in Georgian glass of any period. The stem is plain on a conical foot with rough pontil.
Apart from some scratching to lower part of inside bowl due to careless and rough cleaning, this is a magnificent example of perfection in English drinking glasses of the period. Useable at this size it deserves occasional use. height 211mm. (8.3 inches)
